AI Meets Ambition: Saudi Arabia’s First International Olympiad Unites 25 Nations
Saudi Arabia is one of those nations already deeply immersed in the world of artificial intelligence (AI). In March, plans were made to invest $40 billion in AI.
Yet, they always like to go the extra mile, and that is why they kicked off the first edition of the International AI Olympiad (IAIO) on September 8, which will run until September 12.
What Is The AI Olympiad?
The AI Olympiad is known as the premier platform for AI competitions and talent development. This event will showcase a global competition featuring students from 25 countries. In addition to the students, scientists and enthusiasts will come together to exchange ideas and explore new advancements in the field of AI.
There will be hands-on activities designed to enhance skills in AI and machine learning, as well as opportunities to develop AI solutions to address real-world challenges.
Preparation For The Olympiad
Before the Olympiad, SDAIA (The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority) hosted a series of virtual AI lectures on the Olympiad website. These lectures aimed to qualify international teams for the competition and boost the AI knowledge of interested students from various countries.
For five weeks, students took courses that included Introduction to AI, Social Impact of AI (ethics, fairness), Kernel Methods, and much more.
The Competition
Once the AI Olympiad competition is complete, students will find out who the winners are by attending the third edition of the Global AI Summit, held from September 10 to 12 at Riyadh’s King Abdulaziz International Conference Center.
All these efforts are being made to raise Saudi Arabia’s global standing and make it a leading force in data and AI.
