Should Arabs Have the Liberty to Watch Porn?

The same week news broke of a Porn University in Italy, Arabs are still discussing whether it is something we should be given the liberty to watch or not. The talk show Nafsana, aired on El Kahera wel Nas and hosted by Entesar, Hedi Karam and Shaimaa Seif, caused quite the buzz a few days ago after publicly discussing the matter.

Actress and talk show host Entesar believed that porn could be a source of education for newly-married men in a society where no one gives them any information whatsoever about pleasuring wives. Hedi Karam added that communities showing the highest levels of sexual frustration and homosexuality are the ones who are stripped away of the freedom of choice; however, she added that rather than banning internet pornography sites like watchmygf.xxx, we should educate our children about how to make the right choices — i.e. not watch porn.

It was Shaimaa Seif who was clearly against the porn industry, stating that it is against our religion and morals. Now everyone is attacking Entesar for being outspoken in favour of porn websites but honestly, it was Shaimaa who made me think the most. She reminds me of my high school friends. The ones whom you would ask, “How will I know what to do?” and they naively reply, “He will know. They all do.”

No, they don’t. Entesar has a point, many marriages are doomed from the beginning because one of them has absolutely no idea how to pleasure the other. This is not about watching porn for your own pleasure, this is at least to get an idea what it is all about, even if doesn’t depict how it is in real life. I believe this is where the difference in opinions originated — two married women, Hedi and Entesar, who realize the importance of knowledge in sexual relationships versus a blinded single girl, Shaimaa, like my high school friends, who thinks it will all come naturally.

This whole debate ended up as a disaster. The media is ripping them apart for boldly discussing porn, which shows how extremely narrow-minded our society is. Rumors are circulating that some people are even trying to take the show off air.

If people want pornography banned for religious reasons, then simply don’t watch, no one will force you, and if this is about how women think it’s disgusting, then again this comes down to not being acquainted with the male anatomy. I’ve hardly met any married woman who thinks porn is disgusting; this is something only a single girl would say.

What do you think?

WE SAID THIS: Don’t miss Porn Sex Vs. Real Sex.
