Abdel Halim Hafez’s family has announced that it will open the late singer’s home only on the anniversary of his death, following recent controversy on social media regarding public visits to the property.
In a recent phone interview on TV, a family representative explained that the situation began after the launch of an official Facebook page under Hafez’s name to engage with fans, clarify misinformation, and organize visits to his home. The initiative drew significant interest from both inside and outside Egypt, prompting the family to increase the number of daily visitors from 50 to 100, with free entry.
As visitor requests continued to grow, the family conducted an online poll to assess public opinion on introducing a symbolic 50 EGP entry fee to cover security, maintenance, and organizing costs. The suggestion sparked criticism online, leading the family to shut down the page.
The family emphasized that the proposed fee was not for profit, but rather to help preserve Hafez’s belongings and maintain the property. Moving forward, the home will open to visitors once a year, on the anniversary of his passing, in appreciation of his fans and in honor of his legacy.
