Why Egyptians Have Started Getting Too Excited About Halloween Lately
No, It’s not hayafa, It’s Halloween and our country is obsessed. The past decade Egypt has witnessed a rise in the freaky festivities. Whether at schools, nurseries, work, shopping malls or TV, a spooky theme is everywhere around us.
Everyone is wondering why we are suddenly giving all this attention to the furthest thing from a national holiday with an Egyptian culture. Well, these six reasons why you
need to dress up as Mr. Robot this weekend and get your freak on.
1- Social Media
I don’t remember any source of Halloween inspiration back in my school days. We had no Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The only content we were exposed to was movies, MTV and magazines. Now we see people everywhere around the globe wearing crazy costumes and makeup and we can’t help but feel the immediate need to do the same.
2- Costumes
Who would say no to an opportunity to spend the whole day as Poison IV or Khaleesi. Our realities aren’t so entertaining in case you haven’t noticed, so everyone needs to escape to his own fantasy world. And FYI, kids LOVE it. It’s hands down the most exciting event in their year.
3- Makeup artists
We started having a crazy talented line of makeup artists in Egypt who can turn you into a zombie faster than you can say the Walking Dead. I definitely want to act and look like a freak in public without being judged.
4- We deserve a break
Honestly, enough with the depressing news. Enough with our mobile homepages. Our economy is a disaster, our education system is a joke and Nescafe just got more expensive. Why the hell not party?
5- Epic Parties
Back in the days, you’d be lucky if you got invited to the single and very exclusive Halloween party, but now there’s a party for every citizen with all sorts of music genres. It’s kind of hard to miss.
6- We must Instagram and Snapchat
Since YOLO, the world has decided that we must show off our happiness, awesomeness and fabulous life on Instagram.
WE SAID THIS: Freaks of nature, you can finally be psycho AF in public.
