Here’s a Wrap-Up to the Clinton-Sisi-Trump Meetings
Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had a couple of very interesting meetings with the US presidential candidates, Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump, yesterday during his New York visit for the UN general assembly debate. Here’s what they talked about.
The meeting with Clinton
At his place of residence, Sisi met with Clinton, where they had a constructive discussion about bilateral ties and cooperation on a wide range of issues, including counter-terrorism. The Democratic candidate stressed on the importance of the cooperation between Egypt and Israel on counter-terrorism.
The secretary emphasized the importance of respect for rule of law and human rights to Egypt’s future progress. She called for the release of U.S. citizen Aya Hegazy, an Egyptian-American who has been in jail for two years now, accused of establishing a network “Belady,” that takes advantage of children raised in the streets to perform acts against the Egyptian state, according to police and legal authorities. On a more economical level, they agreed on the importance of economic development and investment in Egypt.
The meeting with Trump
On the other side, the meeting with Trump discussed the strategic bilateral relationship between the US and Egypt focusing on political, military and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Trump expressed gratitude to Sisi and the Egyptian people for what they have done for the betterment of the world over the last few years. He also expressed great respect for Egypt’s history and the important leadership role it has played in the Middle East, highlighting how Egypt and the US share a common enemy and the importance of working together in defeating radical Islamic terrorism.
The Republican candidate said that if he were fortunate enough to win the elections in November, he would invite Sisi on an official visit to the States and “would be honored” to visit Egypt and the Egyptian people who he said has great love for.
