8 Things We’ve Learned From Arabic Movies

Movies have always been and always will be a huge part of our lives. There are lines from movies or play screens that everyone just gets regardless of whether or not they’ve watched the movie (but of course we all have!).

Other than the fairy tale stories or unbelievable story lines that we all know could only happen in movies, here are a few things that these movies have actually taught us:

Men will always keep their word….. Unless their woman gets involved!

In the old Arabic movie, Ibn Hamido, Abd El fattah El Kossary makes a big deal of keeping his word. Somehow, his wife always managed to change his mind just by giving him the look and saying “Hanafy!“. The power of a woman will never cease to amaze us.

Men need you to SPELL IT OUT!

It doesn’t matter if it’s obvious or how direct you actually think you are. Men will always have difficulty understanding the intentions behind what you just said.

So please, don’t give hints… JUST SPELL IT OUT for them! This was what we learnt from the movie Teer enta when Ahmed Mekky kept asking whether that was a good or bad thing after every single comment.

Doctors fix you up, but you won’t walk out without a list of concerns

Go to a doctor and you’ll end up having to do a hundred tests for a hundred different possible causes! Ruling anything out will just open up a whole new list of possible diseases. That’s what happened to Ahmed Helmy in the movie Keda Reda.

Families will always unite in times of crisis, regardless of their differences

When the children in El 3eyal Kebret found out their father was planning on running away with another woman, they put all their differences aside and focused on fixing the crisis at hand. Thanks to them, their parents didn’t get a divorce and the family stayed intact.

You’ll automatically bring out the worst side of a woman, if you go near her children

Women can sometimes be naive and do stupid things in the name of love. But as soon as you try hurting their children, their protective nature comes out and you’re doomed! That’s what happened in the movie Al Nazer, when Hassan Hosny tried to ruin Alaa Waley El Din‘s career and take over the school.

Only then did his mother show her worst side and torture him!

Kids will always find a way, no matter how strict you are!

We’re not saying don’t be strict, and we’re sure as hell not saying it’s right for kids to try and make a fool of you. But kids will always find a way, so just keep an extra eye out when necessary.

That’s what happened to Fouad il Mohandes in Sok 3ala Banatak, when his daughter and her boyfriend used to make plans. 6 kg of fish and shrimps was code for Meet you at 6 pm in front of  The Aquarium Gardens ( you have to admit it was quite smart!).

Our opinion doesn’t change the facts

Though the point in the movie Al Keef was talking about drugs, the quote being said by Mahmoud Abdel Aziz taught us that trying to convince the people around you can sometimes be a waste of time because it just doesn’t change the facts.

Your kids will always sense when something is wrong!

When the father was having an affair in Al 3eyal Kebret, the kids sensed it. Your kids will always know, don’t lie to them.
