When the worlds of architecture and photography collide, something extraordinary emerges, and that’s exactly what makes Amr Allam’s work so striking. What began as a passion for design and drawing soon evolved into a career in photography, where he channels years of architectural education into every frame. His journey from architect to visual storyteller is anything but ordinary. We had the chance to dive into his creative universe, exploring how he balances these two arts, the philosophy behind his work, and the moments that ignite his unique visual spark.
Early Foundations
Allam’s journey began in architecture, where his passion for design and drawing first took shape. After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering, he continued to refine his eye through multiple drawing competitions, building a strong foundation in form, composition, and detail.

The Turning Point
Working in design felt like a natural progression, but everything changed in 2020. Allam and his team won the competition at the Venice Architecture Biennale, an experience that would redefine his creative path.
“That’s where I discovered something different,” he recalls. “Photographing buildings didn’t feel like documentation; it felt like a conversation.” Returning to Egypt with a major achievement under his belt. Allam could have continued along a stable architectural career, but the pull toward photography proved stronger. “I moved fully into photography and media, not just to capture spaces, but to express them.”

Capturing A Feeling, Not Just A Frame
“My vision is about capturing how a space feels, through light, composition, and detail,” he explains. Balancing both architecture and photography proved challenging, leading him to lean fully into the latter. Through cinematic framing, a careful play of shadows and light, and the inclusion of human interaction, he transforms static structures into immersive stories. “It’s about creating visual narratives rather than just static shots.”

The Process Behind the Lens
When approaching a new project, Allam doesn’t just walk into a space; he reads it. He starts by tuning into its energy, its mood, almost like catching a vibe, then translates that feeling into light, angles, and carefully crafted compositions.
Every building, to him, has its own personality. No two are treated the same. “First, I try to understand the building, its style, purpose, and the architect behind it,” he says, as if he’s getting to know the story before telling it. Because in Allam’s world, it’s not just about shooting a space; it’s about letting it speak.

Where Precision Meets Play
When it comes to balancing precision and creativity, Allam treats the technical side like a safety net: always there, always solid. Once that foundation is in place, that’s where the fun begins.
Instead of being restricted by rules, he uses them as a launchpad to experiment, explore, and push boundaries. “Over time, technical skills become second nature,” he says, “letting me focus entirely on expressing the space in my own way.”

Where Architecture Meets Imagination
Allam’s signature style is rooted in his background in architecture and fueled by a lifelong passion for drawing. Sketching trained his eye to see lines, balance, and composition everywhere, while architecture taught him how to understand perspective. “On top of that, my love for video games and cinema influences how I approach visuals,” he adds, “creating cinematic, expressive shots rather than just documentation.”
Put it all together, and the result is something far more immersive. Allam doesn’t simply capture spaces; he ultimately transforms them into stories you can step into.

A Shot Worth the Risk
For Allam, one project towers above the rest of his portfolio: a building in Jeddah he stumbled upon online. Its brutal style, fused with intricate Islamic influences, was impossible to ignore.
Photography wasn’t allowed, but the building’s beauty was worth breaking the rules. “I still don’t know much about it, but it stuck with me,” he recalls. “I usually don’t photograph myself, but I liked this one so much I made an exception!”

For Allam, every building is more than bricks and mortar; it’s a story waiting to be told. With cinematic framing, meticulous attention to detail, and a deep understanding of architecture, he transforms spaces into immersive visual experiences that invite viewers to feel, imagine, and explore.
From a towering structure in Jeddah to the subtle dance of shadows, his work proves that architecture isn’t just something to be seen; it’s something to be experienced.
