Previously debuted at Brian Eno’s Together for Palestine (T4P) at London’s OVO Arena, raising over $2 million for organizations working in Palestine, the British collective Together for Palestine (T4P) has released the single ‘Lullaby’.
The song is an adaptation of the Arabic track Yamma Mwel El Hawa (Mother, Sing to the Wind). The Arabic lyrics for Lullaby are drawn from the works of Palestinian poet and author Mahmoud Darwish, while the English lyrics were penned by British songwriter Peter Gabriel.
Sixteen UK and Palestinian artists and musical groups came together to release the charity single Lullaby for Palestine featuring Amena, Brian Eno, Celeste, Bastille’s Dan Smith, Kieran Brunt, Lana Lubany, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Mabel, Nadine Shah, Nai Barghouti, Neneh Cherry, Sura Abdo, TYSON, Yasmeen Ayyash, and Ysee.
The release is accompanied by a music video directed by Lina Makoul and filmed across different parts of Palestine with scenes of everyday life, boys skateboarding, girls brushing each other’s hair, people sitting by the beach, set against backdrops of destroyed buildings and displacement camps, portraying daily life amid the realities of the genocidal war in Gaza.
A week after its release, today, Lullaby debuted at number five on the UK Singles Chart, carving out its place among a chart dominated by Christmas songs and marking the highest-ever chart position achieved by an Arabic song in the UK.
The song has raised £70,000 from sales so far, all of which will be donated to Choose Love’s Together for Palestine Fund, supporting three Palestinian-led organizations: Taawon, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and the Palestine Medical Relief Society.
