Cairo is taking a big, positive step toward helping both residents and the city’s stray dogs. The Governorate has set aside a 2,500-square-meter plot of land in El-Tebin area that will soon become a proper shelter for stray dogs. The Cairo Veterinary Directorate is expected to take over the land within days so they can start preparing the space right away.
A Humane Plan for the City
Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber explained that this shelter is part of a larger effort to deal with stray dog issues in a more humane and organized way. Instead of leaving dogs on the streets, they will be brought to the shelter, sterilized, vaccinated, and even offered for adoption. The goal is to keep neighborhoods safer while still protecting the animals’ well-being.

Preparing the Shelter
Dr. Mustafa Ramadan, Director of the Veterinary Medicine Directorate in Cairo, said that the entire site will be fully equipped to meet the dogs’ needs. A security team will accompany the veterinary staff from day one so that preparations can begin immediately. He also noted that special care will be given to vaccinations, especially for female dogs, to help control the population more effectively.

Conclusion
This new shelter is a promising step toward a cleaner, safer, and more compassionate Cairo. By focusing on both public safety and animal welfare, the city is showing that practical solutions and kindness can go hand in hand.
