The Misk Art Institute in Saudi Arabia, a new cultural organization established by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s Misk Foundation. Some of the institute’s highlights of the year are the commissioning of the first Saudi pavilion for the Venice Architecture Biennale, the development of a cultural exchange program in California, and the launch of a New York based festival dedicated to Arab art.

Chairman of Saudi National Creativity Initiative, Abdullah Qandeel, has been leaving us teasers of his artwork on social media for an event that took place yesterday, Wednesday 4th of April, in Los Angeles. Born in Saudi Arabia, Qandeel lives and works in the coolest and trendiest hotels of Manhattan, or in his studio on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Freelancing since 2010, the artist’s collectors include renowned personalities such as Charles Rockefeller, the actor Cuba Gooding Jr. and members of the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

Auction websites refer to Qandeel as a ‘Bad boy’ among international art societies due to his creative outbreaks, including vandalism in hotel rooms while converting his suites into atelier spaces. The Arab world is filled with artistic gems that deserve international recognition, vandalism or not!

WE SAID THIS: We’re so glad the art scene in the Arab world, especially in Saudi Arabia, is evolving. Keep going!
