ReConnect : Online BlackOut

We’ve heard about challenges involving online blackouts and avoiding social media and what not over and over again. But can we actually do it? I’m not sure, I personally cant. I cant go longer than an hour without online interaction and that is if I’m delved into work.  Lets say we can do it, why would we?

And that is the question that the Reconnect Project actually answered. What incentive would I be given? They turned it into a challenge, and no it’s not how long can you go without online interaction (that’s lame), rather to turn off your Internet, cellphone and electronics, and go out and participate in the real world for one full day on Sept 2nd.

This mission is to see what people can do creatively when they disconnect from the world wide web, and create original content. Whether alone or with friends, the project encourages you to go outside, take photographs (without uploading them to Instagram), paint, or create a flash mob, among other activities. And that is of course instead of sharing, retweeting, pinning, liking, favoring, digging etc => unoriginal content!

Those who participate are asked to log on again Sept. 3, and upload images and files of the creative things they did offline for others to see on the Reconnect Project’s Facebook page.

I personally think it is a very healthy challenge, it is like donating blood to renew your blood cells (blood donated would be your offline time and the cells would be the online content in this metaphor, which I’m actually explaining). That is just my opinion, it is just that there’s so much creativity you can tap into when you’re not digitally connected.  After all, it’s just one day. Can you do it? Tell us in the comments below.
