Morocco To Change Law For Rape Marriage
Morocco’s government has announced plans to change the penal code to outlaw the traditional practice of forcing rape victims to marry their rapists. This act has been taken nearly a year and half after a 16-year old committed suicide after being forced into this action.
Women’s rights activists welcomed Justice Minister Mustapha Ramid’s announcement, but said it was only a first step in reforming a penal code that doesn’t do enough to stop violence against women in this North African kingdom.
WE SAID THIS: We love how Arab/North African women are taking matters in their own hands lately!
