Kehlani Urges Artists to Sign “Artists Against Apartheid” Letter

American songwriter, model, and singer Kehlani is standing with Gaza and her social media presence shows unwavering support to the Palestinian people. Kehlani is urging artists to sign a letter “Artists Against Apartheid!” in solidarity with Palestine its people’s right to self-determination.

“When a government makes non-violent resistance impossible when it brutalized and murders those engaged in peaceful protest, it makes armed resistance inevitable…the armed attacks on 7 October cannot be decontextualized from apartheid.”

The letter clearly condemns Israeli blockade and bombardments, aiming to “erase Gaza from the face of the earth…it is genocide, plain and stark.”

Artists from all over the globe are signing The Artists Against Apartheid letter, among them are Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, Katir Halper, Muhammed El Kurd, Mykki Blanco, and Seun Kuti. Signing the letter means firmly standing with Palestine, which involves using their social media platforms and their artistic practices in every way possible to stand face to face with the misinformation, manipulation, and misrepresentation.

Kehlani’s initiative comes from the idea that artists too have a role in voicing their concerns towards the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, artists could serve to take the narrative obscured or twisted by the media back on its right lane and contextualize it.

“Now is the time to protest apartheid and amplify the just cause of the Palestinian people and their resistance against 75 years of occupation,” said Kehlani on Instagram.

The 28-year-old addressed the injustice and war crimes committed by Israel to her 15.5 million follower account to call out the crimes committed by the state of Israel in Gaza since the outbreak of this attack on October 7, which is characterized by disproportion.

Besides Kehlani’s honest support, other celebrities are standing in solidarity with Gaza and going as far as condemning Israel: Wallace Shawn, John Cusack, Selena Gomez, Mark Ruffalo, and Bella Hadid, to name a few.
