#Oscars2016: Arabic Film ‘Theeb’ Nominated For Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award

Theeb, an adventure film about a young Bedouin boy set in 1916, has been nominated for a 2016 Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Directed by Jordanian Naji Abu Nowar, the film was selected, along with four international projects from Denmark, Hungary, France and Columbia, out of 82 films originally submitted to the Oscars’ foreign film category.

The nomination comes as testament to the impact Arab filmmakers are making in the international film industry. Theeb was one out of seven Arab films considered for the 88th Academy Awards, three of which, including Theeb, were funded by SANAD, Abu Dhabi’s film fund powered by the twofour54 media zone.

Having travelled to over 13 countries, Theeb has won more than 25 awards worldwide since its world premiere at the Venice Film festival and its Arab premiere at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2014. The film has also received nominations for two BAFTA awards under the Best Film Not in the English Language category and the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category.

WE SAID THIS: Don’t miss Arabs at the Oscars 2015.
