Israelis Arrest Camel for ‘Infiltrating’ Military Zone
It’s not just Egyptians who are wary of supposed “spy animals”. This week, Israeli soldiers arrested a camel for allegedly “infiltrating” a military zone near Bethlehem.
The camel belonged to Younis Rashaydeh, a Palestinian farmer who was also arrested along with his camel and forced to pay a fine of 2,000 shekels for his animal’s return and a 600 shekel “transfer fee”.
“Over the past few years, Israel has confiscated several herds of cattle belonging to Palestinian farmers from the village,” Rashaydeh told the Al Quds news agency.
Fawaz Rashaydeh, the head of Rashaida village council, accused Israeli security forces of trying to force Palestinians from their land with these arbitrary arrests, as the farmers base their livelihood on their pastures and animals.
