Iran’s Next Move: How the Killing of Haniyeh Will Escalate Tensions with Israel

After Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council held an emergency meeting, during which Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered an attack on Israel.

“We see avenging his blood our duty,” said Khamenei. The attack by Israel has set the stage for receiving “a severe punishment.”

What Does This Mean?

For more than 10 months since the beginning of the Gaza genocide, Iran has been avoiding this kind of retaliation, steering clear of an all-out war with Israel.

Instead, the country has been relying on sharply increased attacks by its allies and proxies in the region.

But now, Iran is planning to retaliate for the killing of Haniyeh. The question is, how will they do so?

How Will They Attack Israel?

According to the New York Times, Iranian military commanders are considering how they will attack.

One option is using drones and missiles, similar to the strike launched back in April. They want to attack military targets in the vicinity of Tel Aviv and Haifa without hurting civilians.

The other option is a coordinated attack led by Iran, with allied forces from Iraq, Yemen, and Syria joining in for maximum impact.

Iran is ready for anything, as Khamenei informed military commanders and the army to prepare for both an attack and defense in case the war expands and the US aids Israel.

What Now?

So far, there is silence on the war front. No direct attack has been launched, leaving the world on the edge of its seat, waiting to see what will unfold.
