British R&B singer Aria Wells, also known as Greentea Peng, documents her journey with the humanitarian aid initiative Refugee Biriyani & Bananas, supporting refugee communities from Palestine, Sudan, South Sudan, and Yemen.
The organization distributes essential supplies among displaced communities from Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, and, most recently, the displaced people of Palestine. During Ramadan, the team successfully packed and distributed 1,000 food boxes, providing meals for 1,000 families observing the season under extremely difficult circumstances.
This Ramadan, Greentea Peng traveled to Cairo to regroup with Ruhi Loren Akhtar and the Refugee Biriyani & Bananas team, helping deliver food, aid, and supplies to the ever-growing community of displaced Sudanese and Palestinians seeking safety in neighboring Egypt.
As conflicts continue across multiple regions and humanitarian crises deepen despite global protests and boycotts, many people are in doubt how they can help, which is why grassroots initiatives like Refugee Biriyani & Bananas provides direct, community-led support.
Known for her deeply soulful vocal delivery and her ability to seamlessly weave together neo-soul, reggae, dub, and psychedelic textures, Greentea Peng has cultivated a sound that resonates far beyond the UK’s alternative R&B scene, often carrying a spiritual and politically conscious energy that reflects themes of healing, resistance, and community.
Today, there are over two million displaced Sudanese, South Sudanese, Palestinians, and Yemenis seeking refuge in Egypt, and due to ongoing wars and regional instability this number continues to grow. Where a humanitarian corridor once existed for Sudanese women and children, that legal pathway has now been closed, forcing thousands to undertake a perilous desert journey in search of safety, often with no certainty about how they will be received once they reach the border.
