Concrete work for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is 80% complete and will be finished within the next two months, General supervisor Tarek Tawfik said in an Al Shorouk report.

3,000 pieces of the Tutankhamun collection have already been transported from their former home (of 84 years), the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, to the GEM. The remaining 2,000 pieces are set to follow.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail announced this week that an Antiquities Ministry-affiliated general authority for the GEM will be launched, and could be partially open by mid-2017.

WE SAID THIS: A board of trustees will be formed by the cabinet to govern the new museum.
