For The Record – July 28th
• The first photo of Andre 3000 portraying Jimi Hendrix in upcoming biopic All is By My Side has just surfaced, just weeks ahead of the film’s premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
• Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd and producer Brendan O’Brien have teamed up for new project Sons of the Sea which Boyd describes as ‘a lot more piano and rhythm, melodic weird pop; it’s like oddball pop’. The first full length album will be released in September.
• J Cole’s lyric on Drake track Jodesi Freestyle ‘I’m artistic, you niggas is autistic, retarded’ has drawn criticism from several autism advocates. The rapper has since apologized for the lyrics, saying ‘I was instantly embarrassed that I would be ignorant enough to say something so hurtful’.
• We’re all waiting for twerking to not be a thing anymore, but until then… this video by Busta Rhymes and Nicki Minaj is kind of amazing (but not in a good way):

• And here’s Fiona Apple’s new one Hot Knife:
• DJ Khaled proposed to Nicki Minaj with a 10-carat diamond ring via an MTV News video, with this sweet sentiment: ‘Only reason I’m not telling you this face to face is because I understand that you’re busy.’ Ah, romance.
• Frank Ocean has canceled the remainder of his Australian tour after just one show due to a torn vocal cord.
• Rush are being honored with their own Canadian stamp this week, featuring the Starman artwork from their 1976 record 2112. Other artists who have appeared on Canadian stamps include Joni Michell, Bryan Adams and Paul Anka.
