FOCAL POINT: The Emirate of Sharjah to Launch a New Annual Art Book Fair
The Sharjah Art Foundation is about to pamper all the bookworms and art enthusiasts out there in the UAE! The Foundation is launching the very first edition of FOCAL POINT, an annual fair for “printed matter and products” with more than 50 publishers from across the region and the world participating.
The art book fair will take place from the 8th till the 10th of November at Bait Obaid Al Shamsi in Sharjah’s Arts Square.
The art book fair is similar to an art fair, but it focuses more on print; like comics, photo books, artist biographies, etc. Throughout the three-day event, there will be a series of talks, screenings, a book launch, a lecture-performance, art projects, an open studio, themed educational workshops, and more!
The book launch for Prison Notebook by Ibrahim El-Salahi will take place on Friday at 6 pm. The Sudanese artist and former politician that was jailed without trial in the 1970s, documents his experience through a series of pen-and-ink drawings.
Moreover, there will be a collaboration with Asia Art Archive called “It Begins with a Story: Artists, Writers, and Periodicals in Asia”. Attendees can learn and take a deeper look into history and present state of publishing in the wider Asian region.
