Find Out How 28 Meters of Plastic Bottles Got Lebanon Into the Guinness Book of Records
From forming the longest Debkka line to preparing the biggest bowl of tabbouleh, Lebanon has entered the Guinness book many times, certainly for the most creative concepts. And this year, they did it again when Caroline Chaptini set in motion an idea that might seem very simple, but definitely managed to echo throughout the Middle East. She went asking people on social media to help her collect plastic bottles, enough to build a Christmas tree. The purpose was indeed environmental at first, but then it quickly turned into a challenge to set up a new world record for Lebanon.
But the question is why did Caroline choose plastic bottles specifically? It’s actually because plastic is the number one cause of the pollution in Lebanon’s sea, harming the environment and human life severely in the past few years. So, the holiday was a great opportunity to raise awareness in the most beautiful and cheerful way.
Caroline cooperated with the municipality of Chekka, the Scouts of Lebanon Mar Maroun, Chekka Regiment, and the Orthodox Youth Movement, who all helped in creating the 28.5-meter Christmas tree that actually broke Mexico’s record of 28-meter-high Christmas tree made of 98,000 plastic bottles, allowing Lebanon to enter the Guinness Book once again.
