Fashion Garage
Everyday there is a new endeavor online, but very few actually stand apart or are considered “new & unique” in the market. One very creative idea that Cairo has come across is Fashion Garage, created by Mrs. Heba Serag El Din. The concept behind the site is to give people an outlet to buy and sell used and new things, kind of like an upscale flea market (very much with the times, seems vintage is all the rage these days!)
We sat down with the owner herself and got the scoop from her:
1. How did you get inspired with the idea of “Fashion Garage”?
Honestly it was a spur of the moment thing, I happen to be obsessed with dresses and I can never wear a dress more than twice if not once, I keep buying more and the closet keeps pilling up so I thought of doing a garage sale to get rid of all the dresses I will never wear again.. Then it hit me, I am one in a million why not create a service for others like myself?
2. Is Fashion Garage just a shopping online website or do you also have a boutique?
No we don’t have a boutique just yet!
3. Do you think shopping online is becoming successful in Egypt?
Absolutely, this generation is hooked on online utilities such as Facebook, Twitter etc. We like fast and practical ways; online shopping is becoming a trend more and more each day.
4. To what extent are your products diverse and whom would they appeal to?
Products at Fashion Garage are very diverse hence we do not only sell Clothing for men and women but we also sell furniture, traveling packages and electronic gadgets. Fashion Garage offers a little something for everyone as our prices range from 60 LE to 50,000 LE; there is something for everybody.
5. What brands are the most common on your site for both men and women?
We have Vivien Westwood, Vera Wang, Jovani, Dolce and Gabbana Etc.
6. How do you think people would react to the “previously owned” products?
I understand how most Egyptians would feel regarding such term but like Europeans and Americans, Egyptians will learn to have an open mind towards new ideas and welcome them. And for those who are looking for something new I would just like to clarify that Fashion Garage doesn’t only sell previously owned products but it also sells old stocks from high fashion stores and also Brand new products. Like I said, we have something for everybody 🙂
7. How are you planning to gain more recognition?
Fashion Garage’s launch party was a great success so we will be hosting an annual party from now on as well as online marketing and joining a lot of bazaars and events.
8. The fact that 5% of all profit goes to a charity association builds a great reputation, could you tell us more about “Lions Club Garden City” and why you chose this association in particular?
I think that we should all do a little charity every now and then 🙂 I chose Lions club Garden City because I have had a lot of personal experience with the club because my mother is the club’s president and she made sure I participate in many of their fund raising events and to grow to understand the importance of charity work. I have seen them cater to people’s needs starting from helping with their people’s accommodations to organizing a team of highly qualified doctors to perform free surgeries. It is truly amazing how a person can change another person’s life to the better.
