Everything To Know About “The Office” Saudi Adaptation
It has been announced that a Saudi version of “The Office”, under the name, “Al Maktab” is on its way. “The Office”, is a workplace sitcom that revolves around situations that happen every day to the people working in, well, the office. The original show first premiered in the UK followed by Germany and eventually the US version starring American actor Steve Carell. A mockumentary with a dry wit that breaks the fourth wall has definitely challenged the sitcom genre in its storytelling structure adding one more adaptation to its list of reboots with Saudi’s “Al Maktab” launching production this month.
Developed by MBC Studios and set to be directed by Egypt’s own Hisham Fathi who is no stranger to the comedy genre. Previously directed films like “Hamel El Lakab” (Title Holder) and the television show, “Khalsana Be Shiyaka” (Elegantly Done), Fathi knows how to make an audience laugh and we are sure an Egyptian flavor will be sprinkled in there. Moreover, the Saudi adaptation will be starring the likes of Aleh Abuamrh as Malik Al-Tumaifi, the Michael Scott/ Steve Carell counterpart. Seeing that character translate into a Middle Eastern setting will surely be interesting.
Planning for the story to be told across 20 episodes, the Saudi spin hopes to have the same heart but a whole Middle Eastern spin. “Al Maktab” (The Office) will premiere on MBC’s television networks in addition to the streaming platform, Shahid VIP; the air date has yet to be announced but shooting will be this month.
