At the World Governments Summit, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, announced the launch of the Life and Biodiversity Laboratory, which will find its permanent home at Dubai’s iconic Museum of the Future.
Reviving Lost Species
Visitors will come face-to-face with some of nature’s most intriguing extinct animals, seeing and hearing creatures that vanished thousands of years ago in an immersive experience like no other. These demonstrations use 3D-printed structures, holographic displays, specialized lighting, and interactive effects to bring extinct species back to life.
A First Look Inside the Lab
The dodo bird, woolly mammoth, and Tasmanian tiger were spotted on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s X account, sparking curiosity and leaving guests wondering which other species they might encounter.
Preserving the Past for Generations to Come
One of the laboratory’s highlights is the BioVault, built around the tagline Bringing the Past to the Future. Using advanced gene-editing technology, the vault preserves cells and genetic material from endangered species.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum added that choosing the Museum of the Future as the lab’s permanent home makes the experience accessible to all, with the aim of deepening our understanding of the natural world while supporting global efforts to protect species from extinction.
