Bubble or boba tea is a new but growing beverage here in Egypt. The sweet drink first originated in Taiwan in the late 1980s and later made its way across the globe.

The delightful drink consists of a fruit-based or milk-based tea with the classic chewy boba, the boba balls are made from tapioca starch and are cooked then soaked in brown sugar syrup. The most classic flavors of boba tea are Taro milk tea and Brown sugar milk tea served over ice. Nowadays, there are many different flavors and variations to suit different tastes. From exotic fruits like taro and lychee to a wide range of toppings you can mix and match, including coconut jelly, milk foam, pudding, popping pearls and the classic boba.

Feng Cha

Feng Cha takes the number one spot having three locations: one in Maadi, Sheikh Zayed and another in New Cairo. A Chinese International teahouse with franchises across the globe. Black Pearl

This hidden gem is located inside of Golden Square Mall in New Cairo. The place has a fun pastel theme design and an outdoor seating area, inviting you to enjoy delicious drinks. Being one of the few bubble tea spots, Black Pearl is another great choice serving authentic bubble tea in Egypt. This tiny but mighty shop has many creative options on the menu, from classic flavors like their most popular flavor brown sugar milk tea with boba and fresh and fruity teas to cocktail mojitos and milkshakes. This spot serves drinks only.

Boba Bear

Boba Bear has two locations one in New Cairo and the other in Heliopolis, their menu items offer usual flavors that appeal to the Egyptian tongue like mocha raspberry milk teas and tiramisu frappe. While they are not your classic Asian flavours for bubble tea they will have your taste buds dancing regardless. Their prices are affordable ranging from 40 – 65 EGP.

Yokozuna

Yokozuna caters to a wide range of tastes with the variety of their menu, there is no doubt you will find a drink you will like. Although on the pricey side, their menu includes a spin on bubble tea inspired by dessert items like Black Forest cheesecake and Tiramisu cream cheese. They have only one branch located in Heliopolis with prices ranging from 65 – 120 EGP.

Arabica

Arabica has four stores, two of those being in New Cairo 1, one on the North Coast and the other located in Heliopolis. This store in particular offers all kinds of drinks and combinations as well as a few dessert options not limited to bubble tea. They offer Milkshakes, bubble tea, Iced teas, milk teas, frappes, smoothies and the regular hot drinks you’ll find on the menu at your local café. Prices start from 15 EGP to 100 EGP.
