Bathroom Break with Ghazy: The Sayes
My dream job is to become an Egyptian ‘Sayes’ in a crowded street in Cairo.
For those who don’t know what a ‘Sayes’ is:
He is simply a man (seldom you find a woman, and if you do, she’s borderline man) who stands in a random street helping cars park.
Now there are many great things about this job:
1. It’s only available in Egypt. I have yet to hear of any country in the world that has a random person, standing in a random street, telling random cars what to do with their steering wheels.
2. You don’t have to make any effort to get money. In fact, you don’t have to help the car find a parking spot or help the car park. You can show up uninvited and all of a sudden like that chick from Paranormal Activity as soon as the person is about to drive off… then you can demand money. It’s gold.
3. Sometimes drivers let you park their cars for them. That’s awesome because you can claim you’ve driven any kind of car in the world. Others can give you the car keys and wander off even though it’s the first time you see them. In that case, congratulations on your new car.
I have created my business plan:
– Costs: 0.00 Egyptian Pounds
– Competitors: Any other person in Egypt
– Office: Random crowded Cairo street
– Goals: Do the least amount of work and demand money
– Profit:
A random crowded Egyptian street will have more than 60 cars parked throughout the day. That’s on a very bad day. If you take 5 LE from each of these 60 cars, that gets you 300 LE per day, which is 9,000 LE per month.
With no costs whatsoever, you can make a net profit of 108,000 LE per year.
Once your business grows, hire a beggar for 5 LE a day and get him to work for you in the opposite street. That’s over 215,000 LE per year.
Invest that in a house in 6th of October, and sell it a year later for triple the price.
So potentially, being a ‘Sayes’ can make you 940,000 LE in 3 years.
