Ready to unplug and take a serious break from screens? Misrah is here — think less gym membership, more heritage trek across the UAE.
Launching on August 21, 2025, Misrah is a national initiative that blends physical challenge with Emirati tradition. It’s run by Emirates Foundation with Active Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and it’s open to UAE citizens and residents aged 18 to 25.
So, What Is Misrah?
It’s a 1,000 km journey through the desert — yes, that’s one thousand. You’ll be walking and riding camels across dunes, mountains, and coastlines.
But it’s not just about the distance. Misrah is about reconnecting with culture, building real skills, and getting to know the UAE in a totally different way.
Only 100 people will make it to the final trek — but first, there’s training.

First Up: The Training
Running until October 19, 500 applicants will begin training in Abu Dhabi, four days a week. It’s a crash course in all things heritage, including:
- Camel care and saddle setup
- Traditional dances like Al Ayala and Taghrooda, and traditional Bedouin chanted poetry
- Campfire storytelling and Emirati coffee rituals
- Oral traditions and hospitality customs
You’ll rotate between three stations — Camel Pastures, Folk Arts Workshops, and The Coffee House.
By the end of training, 100 people will be selected for the actual trek.

Then Comes the Trek
If you make the cut, you’re in for the full 1,000 km adventure. You’ll be crossing the UAE the old-school way — on foot and by camel — alongside a tight-knit crew.
The route takes you through wild terrain, 30 cultural sites, and serious throwback vibes. It’s tough, but worth it.

Why It’s Cool
Misrah isn’t just a heritage deep-dive — it’s a challenge. You’ll gain skills, confidence, and a stronger sense of who you are and where you live.
If you’re between 18 and 25, live in the UAE, and want to try something that’s way off the beaten path — this is your sign.
