Egypt’s former Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa has just survived an assassination attempt earlier this morning, according to Youm7. He served as the country’s Grand Mufti, the authority responsible for giving Islamic edicts, from 2003 until 2013.

Gomaa was on his way to lead Jumu’ah prayers at Fadel mosque in 6th of October city when two masked men fired shots at him. He was able to enter the mosque unharmed, but his personal bodyguard was slightly injured in the foot.
