Alameda Races for the Health of Egyptians in Sharm El Sheikh Triathlon
Professional athletes, amateurs, and olympic contenders all gathered in Sharm El Sheikh for the 2016 ATU Triathlon African Cup and the regional Pan Arab Triathlon Championships. The fourth annual triathlon was hosted in Naama Bay attracting competitors from over 50 nations with many of the top winners reigning from Egypt and neighboring Arab countries.
Triathletes and attendees had the mesmerizing backdrop of the Red Sea as part of the race as well as the rest of Naama Bay for Triathletes had competed in the sprint level which consisted of a 750m swim, 20km bike ride, and 5km run or the super sprint race which included a 400m swim, 10km bike ride, and 2.5km run.
Some athletes were competing in order to gain points for the qualification of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. Athletes from ages of 11 to 60 exemplified an extraordinary amount of pertinence, endurance, and commitment to completing the race to the best of their ability. While many were in Sharm El Sheikh for the competitive reasons, a sense of sportsmanship filled the air as many athletes were in the same boat as their competition and were pursing the same journey to succeed in the triathlon.
