Al Ain Region has been named Arab Capital of Tourism 2026, keeping its recent streak going. The announcement comes after the city’s selection as GCC Capital of Tourism 2025, making Al Ain the first place to land both titles in back-to-back years.
Why Al Ain Was Chosen
The decision focused on how Al Ain actually functions day to day from sustainable infrastructure and easy-to-use digital services to accessible public spaces and reliable transport. Add in the mix of heritage sites, cultural spots, green spaces, and family-friendly places, and the choice makes perfect sense.

What the 2026 Title Means
To mark the title, DCT Abu Dhabi will work with local partners throughout 2026 on a calendar of cultural events, festivals, and community-led activities. The idea is to spotlight what already makes Al Ain special, rather than turning it into something it’s not.

Signs of Growing Interest
People are clearly spending more time in the region. Hotel stays in the first half of the year rose by 12% to 228,000 guests, while popular spots like Al Ain Oasis, Qasr Al Muwaiji, and Al Qattara Arts Centre all saw solid increases in visits. The reopening of Al Ain Museum in October, after major renovation work, adds another familiar favourite back into the mix.

Conclusion
With its back-to-back tourism titles, Al Ain Region continues to gain recognition while maintaining its identity as a place shaped by history, landscape, and everyday life. The 2026 designation builds on that foundation, placing the focus on preservation, accessibility, and thoughtful growth rather than spectacle.
