Sleep My Life Away
“I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I’m awake, you know?” – Ernest Hemingway
If this is what Earnest Hemingway has got to say about sleep, then allow me to unveil my own motto as well: Once despair conquers, snooze. Once you’re confused and tired of thinking, nap. Once you feel happiness washing your brain with blessings, cherish it with a long night sleep.
Sleep is not only embodied in those 8 hours that you snooze every night; it has the potential and capability to change your life and perspective. And I’m not just saying this because I’m biased and against life work or physical efforts that staying awake requires. No, I’m taking sleep’s side because it rinses away your common sense and every stressful thought that you end up sleeping on. It cures, it purifies and it enchants you with delight.
People who usually sleep and wake up after five hours with their energy battery full, who are you and how do you manage to get by in this life? I mean, personally, I come across days when the only thing I’m looking forward to is a long nights sleep; otherwise I’m left with nothing but gloom all over my face. But then I realize that sleep for people is just to rest, when in fact, it’s my only leisure time. Sleep wins over going out and eating, sleep wins over boyfriends and good grades; Sleep is my number one priority!
If you think people sleep too much only because of depression, then you’re misinformed. Sleep awakens your dreams from its cave, isn’t that enough of a reason for us to treasure some shut eye? I bet most of us have had better moments when we’re asleep than when we’re facing the doomed reality. You get to lie between the best of both worlds, being dead and alive.
No matter what others may say that sleep will consume your energy and drain your motivation, I still won’t listen, because I don’t want to be enthusiastic when I can find heaven in my paralysis.
