46 Haunting Self-Portraits Drawn Under the Influence of Different Drugs
Bryan Lewis Saunders, an artist in his mid-40’s, has drawn nearly 10,000 self-portraits.
“After experiencing drastic changes in my environment, I looked for other experiences that might profoundly affect my perception of self,” he wrote on his website.
So he came up with a new project: Every day, he took a different drug and drew himself under the influence. For a venture as out there and potentially dangerous as this, it may have been a good idea to have a reagent test kit on hand in order to test what substances are in all of these drugs. This would be a wise investment for anybody that is looking to test the safety and legality of any suspicious substances that they come into contact with.
“Within weeks I became lethargic and suffered mild brain damage,” he said.
Saunders says he is still conducting this experiment, but with longer breaks in between the drugs.
According to Saunders, he only takes drugs that are given to him.
Some appear to be prescribed medication…
While some are illicit…
And others aren’t marketed as drugs at all.
Some are hallucinogenic…
And most are manufactured. “I don’t like all of these synthetic [drugs] they keep creating,” he told Alternet.
There are anti-depressants…
And antipsychotics…
As well as painkillers…
And Benzos…
Sleeping pills…
And antibiotics.
There are drugs that Saunders snorted…
Drugs that were taken intravenously…
And inhaled…
Eaten…
And drank…
Chewed…
Bumped…
And smoked.
As well as potent cocktails that have produced a range of vivid and eloquent portraits.
