In the heart of Fayoum, Youssef El Araby school was built for a really good cause. As obvious as it sounds; if you could recall the name, of course, it was established to honor the death of Youssef, the child that passed away last year in the 6th of October incident. What’s even more heart-wrenching about it is that the donations that were used to build it were collected by his colleagues in Smart Village School.
The school was built under the patronage of Misr El Kheir (MEK), as part of its noble initiative, MEK Community Schools. The program’s main aim is to create educational opportunities for children between the ages of 6-14, who live in deprived areas in Egypt under rough circumstances.
The initiative allows MEK achieve one of its main goals; which is to demolish illiteracy. In fact, it has already shown progress and success. MEK has been able to open 1,000 community schools all over Egypt’s governorates, and it has also helped by educating 30,000 Egyptian children deprived of education. Not just that, but MEK has also managed to reach destinations near the country’s borders such as Sinai and Matrouh.
Community schools are considered to be one of the most flexible methods of education. This is mainly because they’re non-systematic and tailored to meet the needs and circumstances of its target community. MEK guarantees students’ commitment as part of their long educational journey.
