Middle East Stores Ban Trump Products
Following US presidential candidate Donald Trump‘s outrageous statement on Tuesday calling “for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” Landmark Group has announced that it will stop selling his products in all 195 of its Lifestyle stores across the GCC.
“As one of the most popular home decor brands in the Middle East, Lifestyle values and respects the sentiments of all its customers,” Lifestyle CEO Sachin Mundhwa said.
In February, Lifestyle signed a deal to sell Trump Home products in its UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait stores. Landmark Group also owns Splash, Centrepoint, Home Centre, Iconic and Emax, among others.
Trump has significant investments in the region. In June, two Trump Home by Dorya galleries opened in the UAE in a partnership with Al Tayer Group.
Last year, Trump announced a massive real estate project with Damac Properties during a visit to Dubai. The 42-million-square foot development includes 104 villas and mansions and more than 650 apartments, the Trump World Golf Club, the Trump Estate and the Trump International Championship golf course.
“Dubai is a top priority city for us,” Ivanka Trump, his daughter and the Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions of The Trump Organization, said in May. “We are looking at multiple opportunities in Abu Dhabi, in Qatar, in Saudi Arabia, so those are the four areas where we are seeing the most interest.”
