This Egyptian Weightlifter Was Just Voted Second Best in the World

Our Egyptian Lifter, Mohamed Ihab, was voted second best lifter worldwide in 2017 by the International Weightlifting Federation website. Ihab came second with about 8491 votes beating both champions of Colombia and Chile, losing only to the Olympic Gold Medalist and World Champion Lasha Talakhadze, who had about 9804 votes.

Ihab’s has won the Olympic bronze medal in 2016, add to that his 2017 was even better, he won three gold medals in the world championship, which made him the first ever Arab and African player to do so.

Ihab was born in Faiyum, Egypt, a city located 100 kilometers from Cairo. He was introduced to weightlifting by his father. Ihab started training with a coach at the age of 8 after his brother took him to a weightlifting gym. He went on to join the Egyptian national team at the age of 15 at a body weight of 56 kg.
