10 Laws We’ll Be Seeing in Egypt in the Next Few Years
We were shocked this week when we found out that banks have begun taking measures to add restrictions on the use of dollars abroad by Egyptians, whether through cash or electronic payment cards.
One of the first banks to take these steps is the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), which decided last week to provide only $2,000 (or its equivalent) to travelling customers, instead of $3,000. It also lowered the daily withdrawal cap for debit cards abroad to the equivalent of approximately EGP 1,600, compared to the equivalent of approximately EGP 8,000 prior and it increased the commission on withdrawing and purchasing through cards to 3.5%, compared to 2% previously.
Other banks like the National Bank of Greece, Blom Bank Egypt and the Arab African International Bank are considering taking similar steps, which we think is absolutely ridiculous.
So here’s a list of 10 similar laws that we think we’ll be seeing in Egypt in the next few years.
1. You can only surf Facebook for 10 minutes a day
Because that’s basically the time it takes you to see the important new on Facebook and the rest is you just stalking that crush of yours from seven years ago.
2. You can only listen to one song a day
Even though it’s extremely hard to choose between Beyonce’s “Formation” and Adele’s “Hello”.
3. You can only post one picture on Instagram a week

4. You can only watch one Arab singing competition reality show
The Voice, The Voice Kids, Arab Idol, Star Academy, The X-Factor, New Star, Soot El 7ayah and Arab’s Got Talent. Pick one!
5. You can only breathe 10,000 times a day
Even though a regular person usually has 17,000-30,000 breaths per day, but oxygen is very valuable.
6. You can only have one foul and one ta3meya sandwiches every week
Because we need to increase our reserve of foul and ta3meya.
7. You can only buy one piece of clothing a month
Doesn’t matter if H&M is having a sale, you only get one!
8. You can watch five minutes of YouTube videos a day
Doesn’t matter if this cat’s video is on loop for 10 hours.
9. You can only sleep two hours a day
Because you need to work more, be more productive and help build the country!
10. You can only consume a maximum of 500 calories a day
Because we need to end our country’s obesity problem.
