Do You Have What It Takes To Beat The Maze?

With Ramadan finally over, it’s safe to say we’ve had enough food-related events and outings to last us a lifetime! So, what is one supposed to do in Cairo if it doesn’t revolve around food or shisha?

Well, that’s where we come in, because you’re missing out on a whole lot of fun!

Towards the end of Ramadan, my friends and I decided we needed to have some fun and that our brains (and tummies) were starting to complain from being couch potatoes stuffing ourselves with all kinds of food. Having heard about The Maze, we decided that that was exactly the kind of brain exercise and fun we needed!

Before you jump to conclusions, no, it isn’t a real life maze and it is not taken from The Maze Runner, but thank God it isn’t because given our sense of direction, we’d all be stuck in there FOREVER!

The maze is an apartment-sized space located in New Cairo where you go in with one goal in mind: trying to get out in less than 60 minutes!

2As soon as you enter the maze, you’ll find a number of doors and clues that help you find the key or unlock the door, which then leads you to another set of doors. With each clue, you’ll be testing your observational skills, analytical skills, teamwork and ability to put two and two together when under pressure.

Each team consists of 2-4 players, and believe me when I say four sets of minds are better than two! You’ll be working as a team to try and find the clues with one person trying to decode something, another looking for a key, another observing the little things and putting them together and there’s always that one person who will be trying to break the door down or use some kind of force – which, by the way, won’t get you anywhere! (We’ve tried.)

You’ll start to realize each person’s strengths – or lack of them – with every step of the way and the sense of achievement you feel when you get one door open is immense! The memories and things you’ll hold against one another will make punch lines and jokes for a looong time. What happens in the maze doesn’t have to stay in the maze, in this case.

themazePeople keep asking what is the difference between The Maze and other escape rooms and, after trying both, we have to tell you that with The Maze, there’s a lot more to experience! You’re not just in one room, you go in and out of rooms, trying to unlock doors and test your abilities.

That sense of pride of getting through door after door is enough motivation to make you ready to take on the next challenge with open arms. The best thing is, no idea is ever too stupid, and you’re literally in a world of possibilities where different minds come together to reach the ultimate goal.

Also, most escape rooms have certain themes, which makes it interesting and the clues are based on the themes of the room. With The Maze, there is no theme and so the interior did not need to put you in a certain mood or take you back in time like most escape rooms tend to do.

And even if you don’t manage to make it out in time, you’ll still have a sense of achievement and self-satisfaction with every door you manage to unlock. There are no losers in The Maze, everyone is a winner!

Don’t worry, if someone panics for any reason – although there is no reason to panic – you just need to lift up a card. So the next time you think all you can do is go out to the newest cafe or restaurant, think twice, because The Maze has a whole lot of fun lined up for you!
