Maria’s Note: US Ambassador in Libya Killed
The American ambassador to Libya, John Christopher Stevens and three other workers of the American delegation in Benghazi have died during the assault at the hands of a group of alleged Islamic militants. As reported by Al Jazeera the ambassador, who was paying a visit to the Libyan city, died of suffocation in his car during a rocket attack last night.
The protests sparked after the broadcasting of an American produced movie that offended the prophet Mohammed. As reported by the Libyan government, a group of armed men gathered in front of the embassy and then stormed the building. After an intense confrontation between both parts, Libyan security forces withdrew during the assault.
Protests took place also in Egypt, where a group of conservative Islamists entered the American embassy in Cairo, pulling down the flag and replacing it with a black flag with an Islamic inscription.
