In most recent reports, dessert locusts have swarmed the city of Aswan due to their season of winter breading. The Ministry of agriculture has stated that Egypt is in no direct threat and that Egypt should see a very mild case of locusts this year.

Having said that they are now being found on the Red Sea coast’s of both Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, with statement coming out that Aswan is in a state of disaster.

With the route stated to only have Hurghada, Halayeb, Shalateen, Abu Ramad and Sheikh al-Shazly in its way, coast gaurds have been ordered to notify the ministry of any approaching swarms as the potential numbers moving are of a serious matter.

Why are they so big? Well because what we are seeing here are full grown adults, with the natural course of things swarms migrate between the summer and winter to mate in different areas. Egypt’s Southern region is to one of the hubs for them from mid October to mid November.

One recalls approximately 10 years ago when Cairo was attacked with hundreds of thousands of the migrating bug that seemed to cover the sky in red.

Authorities have stated that due to the fact that Cairo is not in the designated route that the capital is in no danger as of yet.
