Gym Apparel: The Muscle Behind Egypt’s Top Sportswear Brand
A big part of going to the gym is about lifting weights and exercising, but for some, looking good (so you can feel good) is also part of the process. Many of us don’t necessarily know what to wear when going to the gym. Do you wear shorts? Yoga pants? Ugh, we don’t know. Do I have to wear big brand names that’ll cost me a kidney to buy so I can just do it? The answer to that question is no, you don’t have to with Gym Apparel.
We sat down with Islam Moustafa, one of the masterminds behind Egypt’s most talked about sportswear brand and had a chat about how it all started, the power of social media, and of course, el forma. “Gym Apparel started three years ago with myself, Sherif Geith and Omar Kafafi. Apart from the fact that there was a big gap in the market that needed to be filled, we did it for ourselves. We wanted clothes we would want to wear whilst working out that were also affordable,” Moustafa tells us.
“People usually look at the brand now and say that we’re lucky, not knowing that we literally had to go through so many sleepless nights to get where we are now. We started Gym Apparel with our big dreams and EGP 700. I also want to give it up for social media and the power of it as we wouldn’t have been able to make it without it,” Moustafa stresses on how social media played a big part of Gym Apparel’s success.
Right from the very start, the three founders knew that in order to make it, they had to break into the fitness scene, and that they did. They started with sponsoring athletes such as Mahmoud Nasser (Ripfit founder) and Youssef Sawaby (Musclemania Champion 2014), two big names in the fitness world.
Gym Apparel didn’t stop at just that, their newest collection merges fitness with fashion, creating a one of a kind look that gym goers will definitely appreciate. Not only will you feel comfortable, but you’ll also look fresh as fuck. “We deliver everywhere in Egypt, and soon enough will be expanding to Dubai,” Moustafa tells us how they’ve been approached by a few Dubai companies who would like to support their brand and make it go big in the UAE.
