Muhammed Assaf named “Arab Idol”
On Saturday 22nd of June, Muhammed Assaf was crowned Arab Idol’s season 2. Muhammed Assaf wasn’t just another contestant; his story inspired everyone, and got lots of attention worldwide.
His struggles to join Arab Idol started when he traveled to Cairo in order to apply, but sadly, the admissions were already closed, yet he refused to give up, and decided to jump over the wall to get there. As he got there, still unsure if he’s gonna make it, a Palestinian contester heard his voice and decided to hand him his audition slot because he believed he will definitely be named the “Idol.”
After he was crowned, the show presenters announced that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) named him a goodwill ambassador for peace, and the Palestinian President, Muhammed Abbas, offered him a position with “Diplomatic standing”.
During all of this Assaf couldn’t believe himself, thanking everyone, including the Palestinian people, the judges, and all his supporters.
It is also worth mentioning that Ahmed Gamal, a young Egyptian singer, reached the finals alongside with Farah Yusuf, a Syrian singer. Personally, I find Arab Idol to be by far the best singing competition program in the Arab Idol. Good Luck Assaf, we believe in your talent, and we are sure your music will change the Arab world.
