ElBaradei to be sued for ‘betrayal of trust’
Mohamed ElBaradei, Egypt’s former interim vice president, is being sued for a “betrayal of trust” for his decision to quit the army-backed government when the clashes happened against the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Egyptian law professor at Helwan University, Sayyed Ateeq, filed the suit against ElBaradei. The Court order will be taking place on September 19.
Ateeq told Reuters that and I quote “He was appointed in his capacity as a representative of the NSF and the majority of the people who signed the Tamarod declaration.”
Apparently, if ElBaradei is found guilty, he could face up to 3 years in jail.
However, ElBaradei managed to leave Egypt earlier this week for Europe, and is very unlikely to attend any hearing in this case.
