On Sunday, a delegation from the tech giant Google, under the leadership of Google’s MENA Managing Director Lino Cattaruzzi, met with the Egyptian Minister of Communication and Information Technology Amr Talaat. The two parties discussed mutual cooperation in the fields of entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence.

According to Enterprise, Cattaruzzi has revealed that Google Egypt is planning to hire a full-time staff for its Cairo office while simultaneously furthering its business in the country. With enough time and impact, he believes that this investment will only be the start of something much bigger.

“We are trying to accelerate the work on the quality of our products and engagement with our partners on the content creation side and ecosystem and how to develop all these businesses so they can sell more online inside and outside Egypt”, he said.

For more than a decade, Google has been providing its services in Egypt and the Arab World. Now, the $52bn company is looking forward to engaging more with the Egyptian ecosystem. Google has also stated that it is planning to launch more well-tailored initiatives to its users in Egypt.

Along the same lines, Google has announced that it will be releasing its economic impact report in Egypt. This year’s study found out that Google products and services generated at least EGP 5.2bn worth of economic activity in Egypt. In addition, the report has also found that Google has plans to impact 100,000 Egyptians with its digital training program “Maharat min Google”. Finally, the company wants to get 200,000 businesses up and running on the “Google My Business” platform by the end of 2019.

Google Egypt are also looking to hire a new country manager. In the meantime, Hesham Elnazer, currently Google’s director of agencies for MENA, is filling the position on an interim basis.

Correction: Hesham Elnazer is Google Egypt’s current full-time country manager and will remain in his position. Google Egypt are not searching for a replacement, according to their local PR agency who have exclusively spoken to Scoop Empire.
