5 Great Casinos to Visit in the Middle East

From Morocco to Lebanon, the Greater Middle East has some of the most stunning and famous casinos on the planet. Although they may not be as numerous as in Macau, Las Vegas or Monte Carlo, you’ll get the same world-class service and amazing experience you’d expect in Middle East casinos. Whether you’re a serious high-roller on a gambling vacation or simply a tourist looking for a slice of glamour while enjoying a wonderful holiday, you’ll find all you could wish for in these casinos, all together under one roof. Here are 5 of the best casinos you can visit – we promise you will not miss Sin City or Macau!

Casino du Liban

This is the region’s largest, and probably best-known casino. Opened in 1959 and located in Maameltein in Lebanon, around 40 miles north of Beirut, the venue has an eventful history. Back in the day it was a magnet for the cream of celebrity and senior royalty, with the likes of Omar Sharif and Aristotle Onassis rubbing shoulders with the Shah of Iran and Prince Rainier of Monaco. However, due to the Lebanese Civil War it was forced to close in 1989. Thankfully after the war ended, and after a $50 million refurbishment, it reopened in 1996. It is a world class resort that matches anything that Vegas and Macau can offer. Today the casino spreads over an enormous 35,000 square metres, housing 56 mixed gaming tables and 6 dedicated poker tables where guests can play poker, blackjack and routlette. There are also well over 400 slot machines to enjoy. Should you be playing the tables then you’ll need to dress to match the elegant ambience – formal wear is a must. Gamers can dress more casually in the slots area, but please note jeans and sports shoes are a strict no-no. There is also an excellent hotel, a theatre and amazing restaurants on site too.

Omar Khayyam Casino in the Cairo Marriott Hotel

The Cairo Marriott Hotel was originally built as a palace for dignitaries visiting Egypt and the resort still retains that royal aura of gold-star luxury. With stunning views of the Nile and palace gardens, the casino has 15 table games and 80 slot machines, operating 24/7. Gamblers can play roulette, baccarat, blackjack, poker and slots. The hotel has 14 marvellous dining options, with some restaurants set in the hotel’s stunning gardens. Should you wish to take a break from the gaming, the Pyramids and Sphinx are nearby, as well as shopping and cafes on the famous Saraya El Gezira Street. The Cairo Marriott has a superb health club and everything you would expect from one of Cairo’s very best hotels.

The London Club Casino

Another wonderful venue located in the heart of Cairo; this casino is within the world-famous Ramses Hilton Hotel. There are 18 gaming tables and 34 slot machines, not as many as some venues, but the London Club Casino more than compensates for this with its sheer opulence. You’ll find private rooms to play in should you so desire, and the dress code at the tables is strictly formal. The casino opens round the clock, although the tables are open from 5pm to 9am only. Also note that the accepted gaming cash is the US dollar, and you can find currency exchanges onsite. Amenities are all excellent, with the five-star, 790 room Ramses Hilton Hotel possessing some of the very best dining options in Cairo. Don’t miss the Windows of the World restaurant on floor 69, with superb dishes and an unbeatable view of Cairo.

Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort

Although many of the Greater Middle East’s casinos are located in Egypt, Morocco is home to some sensational venues too – and if you are looking for a luxurious resort with all manner of amenities, look no further than the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort. Located in El Jadida, the 33,000 square foot casino has 46 table games, 10 poker tables and a whopping 467 slot machines. There are private salons and suites for the most serious of gamblers and a wide selection of games for everyone, with all the casino classics you would expect. Tables open around 4pm and slots are available around the clock save for an hour between 8am and 9am. The beachfront resort also has a world-class golf course, a magnificent spa, 10 restaurants and bars and the Alias Nightclub where you can party the night away.

Maritim Jolie Ville Resort and Casino

Located in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh on the Sinai peninsula, this casino hotel offers a perfect destination for high-end, Vegas-style entertainment and razzmatazz. Choose from 15 gaming tables and nearly 100 slot machines, offering all the best casino games. You can visit any number of online casinos beforehand to get into practice. The hotel has its own private beach on the stunning Red Sea, a sensational collection of bars and eateries, a nightclub and even its very own private beach with great sports activities.  It has nearly 350 rooms to choose from, including a gorgeous and spectacular presidential suite. An ideal place to stay for both the serious and casual gambler.
