Youtube To Be Banned In Egypt!

Following a court order yesterday, the video sharing website, YouTube, is to be blocked in Egypt for a month after the site declined to remove an American-made video clip that was deemed insulting to Islam -> “Innocence Of Islam”.

Google, the mother company of YouTube, has announced that they have recieved nothing from the court regarding the ruling made earlier yesterday.

The decision comes 5 months a bit to late for it be of any credibility to the matter in my opinion. Will the ruling actually be implemented is yet to be seen due to similar rulings that have not been implement i.e porn sites.

This will definetly anger many people (Hell, I’m angry and I’m not in Egypt) as YouTube isnt just used for funny videos and music but also for business and marketing. Many young activists were also angered by the ruling since they rely heavily on YouTube to spread videos of police brutality, political satire and call for protests.

I think it is completely idiotic of the Egyptian government to pass such a ruling in times like these. First off, it’ll only show one thing, is that Islamist politicians are trying to find exuces to block the opposition from using tools such as YouTube to spread knowledge. Secondly, that 2-bit video made by a 2-bit soft porn director is long gone and forgotten. Thridly, what’s Youtube got to do with it? This kind of case has been presented before on the internet,  is it the content creator’s fault or the tool (YouTube) that they used to spread it for allowing it? And have you seen videos dissing other religions on YouTube? I have! And I dont see anyone making cases and winning and depriving a nation from because of them.

I do not want to get political on this, but we really need to stop focusing on this nonsense and start working towards building the country, not start more fires than there already are!
