UMF Presents: Rock Stop

The Underground Music Federation is celebrating the launch of its partner Discord Music Magazine, by hosting what is probably the biggest Rock concert of the year, “Rock Stop”.

First of all, in case you haven’t heard, Mashrou3 Leila are performing in Cairo on May 18th. So many people are pumped about that, but they don’t know about the full package. Mashrou3 Leila is the highlight of the event, but don’t forget that this event must have its own UMF stamp on it, which means that the best underground musicians are performing as well!

Here’s the concert line-up.

MASHROU3 LEILA

Mashrou? Leila is Arabic for ?an overnight project? lusting out a microphone, a violin, a bass, two guitars, drums and keyboards. It started out as a music workshop at the American University of Beirut in 2008, an open platform for students of architecture and design, somewhere to experiment with sounds and make things audible. Haig Papazian, Carl Gerges, Hamed Sinno, Omaya Malaeb, Andre Chedid, Firas Abou Fakher and Ibrahim Badr have enjoyed this sound fetish savoring its façade of nonchalance and feeding on its lack of genre – sustaining their collective as Mashrou? Leila, an experiment.

HANY MUSTAFA

Hany Mustafa or HanyMust, is a singer/songwriter and musician from Egypt. His music borrows elements from the indie/acoustic to alternative & ambient music.

DIGLA

Digla is an Egyptian acoustic rock band that consists of members of the previous band, “Diskonnected” – a local seasoned cover-band.

SIMPLEXITY

SimpleXity is a progressive rock band based in Cairo. Each member of the band enjoys a variety of different genres of music. The presence of such varied influences, created the band’s original versatile sound.

FAKING IT

Faking It is a Punk Rock Band formed in August 2006. Band members’ influences range from basically all types of Punk Rock such as Hardcore and Pop. The band is exceptional in using stunning sound effects especially with their guitarist Amir El Sherei, that definitely adds a special vibe and groove to their sound. Faking It composed lots of originals that won the heart of their fans and there are still many to come.

SHADY AHMED

Egyptian singer/songwriter Shady Ahmed has been playing music live for the last 8 years now. Getting his start as the front man to the Rock n’ Roll band Kravin, Shady was able to merge his influences with the style of music the band required. In turn, when the time came to go solo, it was only natural for his sound to come out the way it did… a fresh blend of Acoustic Pop Rock with Rock n’ Roll. As a solo artist, Shady became known for his acoustic guitar playing and singing abilities, focusing on his songwriting he was able to create a sound for his original material, which was only later fully realized when he was accompanied by a band. Shady has shown a preference for one of Fenders newer guitars when performing live.

THE PERCUSSION SHOW

Seven Egyptian percussionists, together on one stage, turn their music talent into a professional world of stimulating beats, bringing you a performance of extreme rhythm and beats!
