How Social Media Fueled Social Action In 2014

AddThis has released its annual year-end infographic, which sums up the year in social action via social media.

They make a bold claim by linking the act of social sharing with empowerment, arguing that social media was used a tool to bring about change in certain key events.

Viral hashtags certainly helped to raise awareness about some critical issues around the world this year, from #BringBackOurGirls to #ICantBreathe, but there’s only so much digital protests can do. Did we get “our girls” back? Will decades of systemic discrimination be reversed if we break the Internet shouting into the virtual ether?
