Shadden: A Young Star in the Making

0

We had the pleasure to witness Shadden and her band mate Nazz, sing and play their music at The boulevard Cafe. Without a doubt, one of the best talents, we have seen so far. There is absolutely nothing better than having the chance to witness a star in the making. Take a look at what Shadden has to say about her music career.

Tell us a little about yourself? How did you and Nazz meet each other?

My name is Shadden. I’m fully Egyptian, born and raised. Me and Nazz got to know each other at summer camp when we were pretty young. She then transferred to my school and soon after became a prominent part of our group and one of my best friends. We both grew into music separately, then came up with the obvious idea of collaborating. We played at little events like talent shows and carnivals during our middle/ high school years. Last year we recorded a cover of Sunday Morning by Maroon 5 and uploaded it to Youtube. We plan on putting some more stuff up after finals.

How would you describe the music that you sing or create?

Well we’ve only ever written one song together. It had a strong alternative rock vibe, but it’s not the style I wanted to pursue. We don’t really perform it. However, we do create music separately; Nazz composes plenty of music, whilst I find my forte really lies in lyric writing. My favorite genres to sing/perform are blues, jazz and soul.

What is your favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car/for karaoke?

I guess it depends on the song I’m into at that moment. That being said, I can’t stop listening to/singing Beast Of Burden, by The Rolling Stones. It’s one of my favorite feel-good songs.

If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?

A band called Bastille. They’re a great band with a great vibe. There’s not one song of theirs that I don’t like.

If you had to do anything other than singing what would that be?

Well I already paint. Art is a passion that, to me, goes hand in hand with music. Can’t choose between them. If I could do anything, however, I’d definitely travel the world.

Someone once said write what you would want to perform over and over. With that in mind, what songs do you love to perform the most?

I’d have to go with Ain’t No Sunshine, Summertime and Georgia on My Mind. Ugh… My voice is temporarily gone due to an intense week and it’s making me sad that I can’t sing any of these for a while.
