Shadden: A Young Star in the Making

We had the pleasure to witness Shadden and her band mate Nazz, sing and play their music at The boulevard Cafe. Without a doubt, one of the best talents, we have seen so far. There is absolutely nothing better than having the chance to witness a star in the making. Take a look at what Shadden has to say about her music career.

Tell us a little about yourself? How did you and Nazz meet each other?

My name is Shadden. I’m fully Egyptian, born and raised. Me and Nazz got to know each other at summer camp when we were pretty young. She then transferred to my school and soon after became a prominent part of our group and one of my best friends. We both grew into music separately, then came up with the obvious idea of collaborating. We played at little events like talent shows and carnivals during our middle/ high school years. Last year we recorded a cover of Sunday Morning by Maroon 5 and uploaded it to Youtube. We plan on putting some more stuff up after finals.

How would you describe the music that you sing or create?

Well we’ve only ever written one song together. It had a strong alternative rock vibe, but it’s not the style I wanted to pursue. We don’t really perform it. However, we do create music separately; Nazz composes plenty of music, whilst I find my forte really lies in lyric writing. My favorite genres to sing/perform are blues, jazz and soul.

What is your favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car/for karaoke?

I guess it depends on the song I’m into at that moment. That being said, I can’t stop listening to/singing Beast Of Burden, by The Rolling Stones. It’s one of my favorite feel-good songs.

If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?

A band called Bastille. They’re a great band with a great vibe. There’s not one song of theirs that I don’t like.

If you had to do anything other than singing what would that be?

Well I already paint. Art is a passion that, to me, goes hand in hand with music. Can’t choose between them. If I could do anything, however, I’d definitely travel the world.

Someone once said write what you would want to perform over and over. With that in mind, what songs do you love to perform the most?

I’d have to go with Ain’t No Sunshine, Summertime and Georgia on My Mind. Ugh... My voice is temporarily gone due to an intense week and it’s making me sad that I can’t sing any of these for a while.

Your Fashion Guide To This Summer

Summer season is finally here and this calls for a new wardrobe. We've got you the latest news about what to wear and what to throw away. This summer is all about being bohemian; looser fitting, free-spirited styles.

Throw away all your neon colored clothes because pastels and monochrome are taking over. Since its all contemporary romantic, white is in no surprise the color of the season. Although it might have not been that trendy the past couple of years, it is definitely a big color this summer. Focus on base and cool colors in general. Remember to mix between black and brown this season too. This is also an outfit that is in and easy to put together.

For fabrics, crochet is the new lace while chiffon, organza and silk satins are dominating all runways. Be brave and wear the bold graphic prints you have saved up and did not know when to wear. Apparently, tribal prints are also in this summer as well as the famous boho prints. Be elegant but spontaneous, don’t be scared to mix prints or accessorize your outfits.

This summer, think vintage. Be it fitted styles from the thirties through sixties or the hippie styles of the eighties, vintage blouses are hot this summer as well as longer and fuller skirts. Don’t forget the floppy hats and the over-sized bags too.

Also, you can keep your denim this summer but forget about studs and spikes, they’re out this season unfortunately. Think round sunglasses, flower crowns, jumbo statement stripes, fringed tops, floral leggings, dip-dye maxi skirts, and baroque prints.

It’s up to you to adapt and interpret these trends into your own personal style but make sure to stand out this summer with a modern, ultra-luxurious hippie spirit.

For Shits & Giggles: Kai & His Girlfriend Ellen

We have seen a million and one kids pull some of the cutest/ funniest/ lamest stunts. All remarkably taped by the parents that just happened to be there at the right place and time. Having said that there are very few kids that actually take that leap of going viral and we have found one video that we are absolutely in love with.

Being huge fans of the Ellen show either way that was just a plus on all fronts, but it is little Kai that truly steals the show in this case.  Listen to his take on Bruno Mars, If I Was Your Man.

WE SAID THIS: WE ARE IN LOVE!
