After watching the Arabic versions of Monster’s Inc., Frozen and Lion King and falling in love with Mohamed Henedi’s fruity voice and Hanan Tork’s appealing tone, we thought we were done with the animated adaptations. But now they’ve hit us with one of our favorite guilty-pleasure games-turned-movie, Angry Birds, thanks to director Jessica Robert.

“My favourite part was when the three main characters arrived at ‘Boheret Al Hikma’ (Lake of Wisdom) and found ‘Al Nisr Al Kabeer’ (The Mighty Eaagle),” Robert told us. “This scene was so dramatic and funny at the same time, and you can also see their enthusiastic spirit once they meet their savior. It was so meaningful.”

The premiere of the Arabic Angry Birds took place on May 7 at VOX Cinemas in Dubai and was attended by the crew of the movie, including Robert.

The Egyptian director has been making animated movies for more than six years, including the Arabic versions of Cars and Mickey Mouse Club House. Her crowd-pleasing work caught the attention of Masreya Media, the company responsible for the Angry Birds Arabic film.

The movie’s storyline is funny yet adventurous, as it takes you to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds whose eggs have been abducted by evil pigs. The three main angry birds, “Jasser” (Red), “Mondafe3” (Chuck) and “Bomba” (Bomb) go on a rescue mission in search for “El Nisr Al Kabeer” to save their eggs from the evil pigs.

The voice-overs were done by a mix of upcoming and popular voices. One that you might recognize is of TV presenter Raya Abi Rachid, who plays “Soka”, one of the main characters in the movie.

Mark your calendars as the movie will be hitting screens on May 12!
